NEW ARRIVAL for 2025

Morus nigra

Black Mulberry! This species has been cultivated in southwestern Asia for so long that its precise natural range is unknown. With its crooked, wide-spreading habit and juicy, dark red, purple, or black fruit (the largest of the genus, at 1"), the black mulberry is a must-try for fruit lovers. It has a slightly acid flavor and can be eaten in large quantities.

Mulberry trees grow well when planted in full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Select a spot, preferably one sheltered from the wind, that’s not near any buildings, underground pipes, or fences. It’s a good idea to space each mulberry tree at least 15 feet apart, with larger varieties up to 30 feet apart.

10 heirloom seeds

Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours, repeat process daily for 4 days

Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days

Germination: surface sow and keep moist, tamp the soil, keep moist, mulch the seed bed, can be sown outdoors in the fall for spring germination
