Crosby Egyptian Beet
60 days. Introduced 1880. The parent strain of the Egyptian beet was introduced from Germany in 1865. 'Crosby Egyptian' became commercially available in 1880 after seedsman James Gregory purchased this beet from market gardener Josiah Crosby. Roots grow 3-5", are very flattened in shape, and grow virtually on the surface of the soil. The roots have a dull red skin and dark red interior.

These beets have the darker rings as opposed to the chiogga. Beets are naturally sweet and high in natural sugar. They are an excellent option for those needing an energy boost. These beets are excellent for pickling and canning. The leaves are excellent as part of a salad or even sautéed! The one orange beet is a different variety. It shows how deep red these beets are!
