NEW ARRIVAL for 2025
Vaccinium virgatum
You do not have to start your blueberries from cuttings or nursery shrubs. For the patient gardener, growing blueberry shrubs from seed can give you excellent results.
Native to Southeastern United States.
This attractive deciduous shrub ranges from 3 to 6 feet in height and can spread up to 3 feet, fitting perfectly in your backyard or garden. Its distinctive spirally arranged leaves start as a warm, red-bronze in the spring, gradually transforming into a lush, dark-green.
These berries are a rich, dark blue to black color, topped with a pale blue-gray bloom via a thin wax coating for a truly captivating appearance. Despite its beauty, the Vaccinium virgatum is self-infertile and requires cross-pollination with two or more different varieties.
We offer 2 other varieties:
Contains 20 seeds
Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days
In order for blueberry plants to produce berries the soil pH needs to be between 4.5 - 5.0. Soils not within the range of pH acceptability for blueberry plant growth must be prepared before planting. If the pH is too high, the growth of the plant is slowed and the foliage turns yellow. Blueberries require adequate water, especially the first year that they are planted, to properly establish a good root system. During the growing season, blueberry plants typically require 1 inch of water per week.
