NEW ARRIVAL for 2025
Vaccinium corymbosum
You do not have to start your blueberries from cuttings or nursery shrubs. For the patient gardener, growing blueberry shrubs from seed can give you excellent results.
Native to eastern North America, this deciduous shrub boasts dark green or blue-green leaves that turn shades of yellow, orange, red, and bronzy in the fall. It also produces masses of white or pinkish flowers with new leaves, followed by blue-black berries up to 1/2" in size, starting in July. This plant thrives in acid soil and requires a moist soil, making it perfect for gardens in the eastern half of the United States. Plus, it's a food source for native and migrating birds, bears, and small mammals.
The first highbush blueberry bush was successfully cultivated for commercial production in the early 1900s.
Flowers are produced on second year growth. It is recommended to plant more than one variety of blueberry bushes to ensure cross-pollination and get a larger crop of larger, sweeter berries
Contains 20 seeds
Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days
In order for blueberry plants to produce berries the soil pH needs to be between 4.5 - 5.0. Soils not within the range of pH acceptability for blueberry plant growth must be prepared before planting. If the pH is too high, the growth of the plant is slowed and the foliage turns yellow. Blueberries require adequate water, especially the first year that they are planted, to properly establish a good root system. During the growing season, blueberry plants typically require 1 inch of water per week.
