HAPPY PLANTING!

Hi Christy,
This is a common issue gardeners have when growing in the summer. Lettuce is a cool weather crop. When grown in the summer, it can be bitter. Also, once lettuce bolts, it becomes bitter.
If you are looking to grow in the summer, there are a few varieties that would be less bitter but they aren’t your typical grocery store greens. Mustard, swiss chard and malabar spinach are recommended for warmer weather. Mustard is pretty spicy for some people.
If you want to grow lettuce in the summer, you might consider trying it indoors. For warmer weather tolerant lettuce, the “4 seasons” lettuce and Jericho lettuce are popular options

Otherwise, I highly recommend planting a fall crop of lettuce as it usually thrives during cooler months.
Thank you and happy planting!

I have a problem. Every lettuce I have planted has had a bitter taste. Can you recommend a lettuce that is not bitter? I have went back to buying at the store. Could it be something in my soil? Thanks
